Taking a moment to refresh the soul

November 17, 2006

Sometimes, in this midst of the "busyness" of business or of life for that matter, I can get caught up in the immediacy of the task at hand. A client needs an urgent solution to their problem, IE 7 is wreaking havoc, and we're on deadline. During such "crises" or when they pile up, it can be very easy to become overwhelmed or frustrated. It is so important to recognize those feelings and avert them in a more positive and productive way. Just the other day, I was reminded of such a simple way of doing that. Mark and I were returning from a meeting with one of our clients, Jennings Anderson Ford. We decided to stop off at a neighborhood printing company, Lebco Graphics, in pursuit of greeting card envelopes. In our rush, we chose to slow down as the store owner had something special for us to see. Out of a big box behind the counter, emerged the tiniest and most precious little lamb ever! He was a preemie and Mrs. Brehmer had taken on the role of full-time caregiver. In that moment, my soul was refreshed. By taking the time to smell the roses or holding a little lamb, I was recharged to take on whatever life or business would bring. It was a good thing too, because when we got back to the office, Simplicato's mail server was down.
