Arizona State University, one of the nation’s standout public institutions of higher education, has awarded Digett the opportunity to redesign the Office of Global Engagement (OGE) portion of their website as part of a comprehensive overhaul of the entire ASU site by Fall 2007.
Digett is proud to help this 122 year-old university develop a cutting-edge, contemporary website. With more than 60,000 students – from all fifty states and over 100 different countries – having an effective and user-friendly site is increasingly important for ASU. Our work is designed to augment the flexibility and interactivity of the OGE pages, thereby better accommodating the needs of both local and international users.
Using a Drupal platform, we were able to create several specifically-customized modules that best compliment the needs of the Office of Global Engagement. Some of our favorite features include:
Multiple Languages: our team built a translation module that dramatically simplifies content translation. With our improved workflow system, multiple individuals can easily coordinate their work without knowing how to use HTML or PHP. Our module also allows for collaborative site administration – eliminating the need for a single individual to supervise all translations. Before, all pieces of content had to be linked together as a single item, making large translation jobs complicated and lugubrious.
Multiple Sections: using a module called Organic Groups, the OGE site actually consists of three mini-sites built into one, each with its own look and feel. This means that while all three sites cohere into one, they also have distinguishing design cues that separate them from one another. As a result, new content – such as blog posts or uploaded photos, for example – automatically match the rest of the site for their particular region. Even better, site administrators can easily plug in new sites at any time. If an academic program opens up in a new location, admins can quickly and independently build a subsidiary mini-site without outside assistance.
Multiple Social Aspects – With our specialized media module, any user can blog, post media (photos, youtube videos, etc), comment, collaborate on documents and much more through a unified interface. And not only does our module employ a single format no matter what you want to upload, it also guides users through a consistent series of steps that help users format their content attractively.
