August 2007 – Jackson Browne doesn’t have a release date for his upcoming album. But considering his fierce dedication to social activism, it’s a surprise he has any extra time at all! In June 2007 alone, Browne collaborated on Instant Karma: the Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and also received the ASCAP-Harry Chapin Humanitarian Award at the 2007 Chapin World Hunger Year Awards. Digett, one of the nation’s premier web design, publishing and marketing companies, is proud to work with Browne as he spreads his message online as well.
The Instant Karma album is part of a broader effort – spearheaded by Amnesty International – that combines technology, human rights activism and the music of John Lennon to heighten global awareness of the violence in Darfur. Through the involvement of some of the world’s most well known recording artists, Amnesty International hopes to bring an end to the fighting that has left millions of people displaced and in danger of starvation. Browne’s contribution, a cover Lennon’s “Oh, My Love,” is included alongside the work of 50 others – including U2, Lenny Kravitz, Christina Aguilera, Green Day and REM.
But Browne’s participation in the Instant Karma project is just one part of a career that spans more than three decades. During that time, Browne has drawn attention to an array of social and environmental causes – among them, the 1979 MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) concerts, his 1986 album Lives in the Balance, 1989’s World in Motion and numerous other projects.
Most recently, the legendary musical artist and “citizen of the world” took time out of working on his studio album to participate in the July 29 Benefit Concert for Boardinghouse Mentors. The Boardinghouse Mentors (BHM) program, founded in 2003 in Santa Monica, California, uses an innovative approach to reach out to underprivileged youths: teaching them to surf, snowboard and skateboard in a safe and relaxed environment. Alongside fellow singer-songwriters Ben Harper and Todd Hannigan, Browne will help recognize the mentors’ work and raise funds to support their continued efforts.
Digett is excited to count socially-aware individuals like Jackson Browne among our clients. In addition to Browne, Digett represents a range of local and national activists and nonprofit organizations, including the Cibolo Nature Center, the Majestic Ranch Arts Foundation, the Boerne Public Library, Kitumusote, the Cibolo Arts Council and Crosby, Stills, Nash (CSN) and Young (CSNY). The company’s support of local and charitable causes is part of an ongoing effort to give back to our community.
